My Writing Journey by Pauline Morgan

It is my pleasure to introduce Northern Irish author and fellow stable mate at SpellBound Books Ltd, Pauline Morgan, to my blog today to share her journey to become a published author. Thank you for your time today. Pauline. Over to you.

Many thanks, to Val Penny, for inviting me to her blog page. My debut novel in the cosy women’s fiction genre, The Ballynoon Friendship Circle, was published in May 2021.

This particular year has been an inspiring time for me. Not only did I see my debut novel as an ebook with SpellBound Books Ltd. In addition, I signed a further two-book deal with the same publishers.

As a child, I had always enjoyed writing. Even today, I write shopping lists or messages whenever I see fit for the occasion. It has taken me over twenty years of arduous work, many rejections. But I can vouch for a significant learning curve to creative writing since joining the social media scene many moons ago.

First, I became friends with writers and like-minded people who shared a love of writing. Then, I joined The Romantic Novelist Association who had a New Writers Scheme. After relocating to Northern Ireland, this was the foundation of becoming a serious writer. Next, I joined another creative writing group called Writing. ie. Writers Ink. My mentor encouraged me to draft short stories for competitions and magazines. Two magazines based in the South of Ireland published my short stories. My faith in creative writing restored my confidence as a published women’s fiction author.

Once more, I sent samples of my work to publishers with a relaxed approach. Then, unexpectedly, I received an email from one of the publishers. I had forgotten I sent it. They offered me a book deal based on my sample chapters. I got my better half to read the email out loud. He confirmed that SpellBound Books Ltd would like to publish my novel. All of this happened during the beginning of the Covid Pandemic.

Since that wonderful day, I am proud to have three standalone books all published via SpellBound Books Ltd and all available as ebooks and paperbacks on Amazon.

The Ballynoon Friendship Circle,

Secrets Under Spanish Skies,

Christmas At Lily’s Bar,

My husband and I relocated to the East Lincolnshire coastline to retire and for me to enjoy my hobby of writing. I have a smaller writing room called the Writing Porch and is our front porch. I get my inspiration listening to the North Sea or the cries of the seagull. I love to take residence in the many cafes to write.

I am currently working on a first draft of another standalone novel based in the South of Ireland dealing with enemies to lovers vs rags to riches tale.

I was fortunate to have tested the waters with samples of my story to two 121 agent appointments. Happy to report both have requested to read in full once the manuscript is finished. I look forward to 2025 in sending off my submissions and crack on writing more romantic women’s fiction.
